After the success of The Roshans, Ranjan is once again turning his lens toward a legendary Indian film family — this time, focusing on one of Bollywood’s most distinctive stars.
Sources close to the project revealed that the series will explore every major chapter of Sinha’s life — from his struggles and breakthroughs in Hindi cinema to his high-profile political career.
“Shatrughan Sinha and Shashi Ranjan have been friends for years. There was no better person than Shashi to bring to life the story of this self-made man. The docu-series will touch upon his highs and lows, friendships in the industry, political journey and family ties,” a source said.
Born in Bihar in 1946, Shatrughan Sinha moved to Mumbai in the 1960s after graduating from FTII (Film and Television Institute of India).
Though he played many supporting and parallel roles early on, his major breakthrough came with Subhash Ghai’s Kalicharan (1976). At a time when Amitabh Bachchan, Rajesh Khanna and Dharmendra dominated the industry, Sinha carved out a unique identity with his charisma and distinctive style.
Apart from films, Shatrughan Sinha became a familiar TV face through shows like Kaun Banega Crorepati Bhojpuri and The Great Indian Laughter Challenge.
He later made a successful transition into politics, first representing the BJP and later joining the Trinamool Congress (TMC).
The docu-series will also highlight Sinha’s personal life — his marriage to Poonam Sinha and his children:
Sonakshi Sinha, now a leading Bollywood actor
Luv and Kush Sinha, who have also worked in films
With rare insights, personal anecdotes and untold stories, the upcoming docu-series promises to be a comprehensive and cinematic tribute to one of India’s most colourful stars — on screen and in public life.
