Vikrant Massey Opens Up About Struggles, Early Jobs, and Journey to Stardom

Actor Vikrant Massey recalls starting work at 16 due to financial constraints, juggling multiple jobs, and overcoming setbacks in early television projects. From barista and dance assistant to National Award-winning actor, Massey shares the journey that shaped his career and resilience.

Actor Vikrant Massey recently shared insights into his early life, revealing how financial struggles forced him to start working at the age of 16. Speaking to Republic World, Massey described working 16-hour days, commuting across Mumbai via four local trains daily, surviving on minimal food, and balancing multiple jobs to continue his education.

Massey’s first experience in front of the camera came on December 19, 2004, not driven by ambition but out of necessity. Before acting, he worked as a barista and as an assistant instructor with Shiamak Davar’s dance troupe, demonstrating incredible determination despite hardships. He recalled that his first television project, a fantasy show about a character who could turn invisible, was a setback as it aired late at night years later, causing financial strain and disappointment.

Despite these challenges, Massey’s career gradually flourished. His breakthrough roles in popular television series like Balika Vadhu and Qubool Hai cemented his reputation. He transitioned successfully into films, making his debut in Lootera (2013), and later receiving the Best Actor award at the 71st National Film Awards for his performance in 12th Fail, sharing the honour with Shah Rukh Khan.

Currently, Massey is gearing up for a special role in Vishal Bhardwaj’s action-thriller O Romeo, alongside Shahid Kapoor and Triptii Dimri, slated for release on February 13, 2026. Massey’s journey from a hardworking teenager to an acclaimed actor reflects his resilience, dedication, and unwavering commitment to his craft.
