Severe Cold Wave Sweeps Odisha as Cuttack, Rourkela Record Plunging Temperatures

Odisha is enduring one of its harshest winter spells in recent years, as a severe cold wave disrupts daily life across the state. Major cities, includingBhubaneswarandCuttack, are grappling with plunging temperatures and biting cold.

Rourkelarecorded an exceptionally low3.6°C, making it the fourth coldest city in India, whileCuttacksaw temperatures drop to8.9°C, breaking a21-year-old record. The previous low of 8.5°C was recorded in 2004.Bhubaneswaralso shivered under dense fog, with early morning temperatures around10–10.2°C.

Northern districts, includingMayurbhanj, have experienced sub-zero temperatures, highlighting the widespread impact of the cold wave. TheIndia Meteorological Department (IMD)has warned that the chill is likely to persist untilJanuary 11, giving no immediate relief.

Residents are advised to take precautions as Odisha continues to battle this prolonged and intense winter spell.
