Ginger-Laden Truck Overturns Near Mathani Chowk in Balasore district; Driver Injured

Residents of a Dalit hamlet in Dumerchuan village under Turekela block in Bolangir district have alleged caste-based discrimination, claiming their water supply and street lights were deliberately disconnected. Authorities are yet to issue an official statement.

A truck transporting ginger worth lakhs of rupees overturned and fell nearly 15 feet below a national highway near Mathani Chowk under Basta police limits in Balasore district early Monday morning, leaving the driver injured.

The mishap occurred around 5 am while the truck was travelling from Assam to Visakhapatnam. According to preliminary reports, dense fog combined with high speed is suspected to have caused the driver to lose control of the vehicle, resulting in the accident.

Local residents rushed to the spot soon after the incident and alerted the authorities. Police personnel from Basta arrived at the scene and initiated an investigation. A petroleum emergency response team also reached the location and assisted in rescue and safety operations.

The injured driver was extricated from the mangled vehicle and shifted to Basta Hospital for treatment. Police officials stated that his condition is currently stable.

The ginger consignment was found scattered at the accident site. Efforts are underway in coordination with the truck owner to safely recover the vehicle from beneath the bridge. Authorities have urged the public not to gather near the accident site as recovery operations continue. The ginger load is expected to be shifted to another vehicle with necessary precautions.
