Odisha Police sprang into action on Thursday after hoax bomb threat emails triggered panic at district courts in Sambalpur, Cuttack, and Deogarh. The alarming emails warned of imminent explosions, prompting immediate evacuation of premises and the suspension of court activities. Police Commissioner S. Devdatta Singh stated that all units were placed on high alert, and the cyber wing initiated a multi-layer analysis of the email. Special tactical teams, dog squads, and bomb disposal squads conducted exhaustive searches of the premises, assisted by the CRP wing. No explosive materials were found, and the courts were later declared safe.
Authorities confirmed that the Crime Branch has joined the probe as the nodal cyber investigation unit, working alongside the local police to trace the origin of the emails. The Director General of Police also inspected the affected locations. After several hours of checks, court proceedings resumed normally in Cuttack, Sambalpur, and Deogarh. Officials have assured that enhanced security measures remain in place as the investigation continues, emphasizing their commitment to ensuring public safety.
