Joburg Super Kings (JSK) captain Faf du Plessis has been ruled out of the remainder of the SA20 season after suffering a right thumb ligament tear during the January 10 match against MI Cape Town, which will require surgical repair. This injury also casts doubt on his participation in the upcoming Pakistan Super League (PSL), as his recovery timeline remains uncertain.
The franchise expressed full support for the veteran batter, stating, “All our love with you, skipper. Faf du Plessis has been ruled out of the remainder of the SA20 season after suffering a right thumb ligament tear, requiring surgical repair. Our best wishes are with you.”
Despite losing their captain, JSK remain third on the SA20 points table with 17 points, having won three of their five matches so far. The team now faces the challenge of maintaining momentum without du Plessis’ leadership at the top of the order.
This season, the 41-year-old scored 135 runs in five innings at an average of 27.00 and a strike rate of 151.68. While his contributions with the bat were modest, his experience and guidance were crucial during key moments of the tournament.
As of now, JSK have not announced a replacement for du Plessis, and it remains unclear who will take over the captaincy. His absence will be a major setback for both the team and fans, with his potential involvement in the PSL now uncertain as he prepares for surgery and rehabilitation.
