Speaking on the issue, Dr. Jaya Sukul, Clinical Psychologist and Founder of Headspace Healing, Noida, explained that chronic stress is strongly linked to the onset and worsening of autoimmune conditions. According to her, prolonged exposure to stress hormones can disrupt immune functioning, potentially leading to multi-organ systemic illnesses over time. She cautioned that autoimmune disorders, though manageable, should not be taken lightly as they may increase the risk of conditions such as diabetes and heart disease if early warning signs are ignored.

Dr. Sukul also highlighted the role of sleep, nutrition, and cortisol regulation in maintaining immunity. Persistently high cortisol levels caused by poor sleep and erratic eating patterns can suppress the body’s natural defence mechanisms, making individuals more vulnerable to illness.
