Chief Minister Mohan Majhi on Wednesday announced that the long-awaited expansion of Rourkela Airport will be undertaken in the near future. The airport is proposed to be upgraded to Category-C, which will significantly improve air connectivity and aviation infrastructure in western Odisha.
Along with the airport upgrade, the Chief Minister confirmed that the Rourkela Steel Plant (RSP) will also undergo expansion as part of a broader development strategy. He stated that discussions have been held with senior RSP officials and central authorities, and a task force has been formed to ensure smooth execution of the projects.
Officials from the Central Government have conducted inspections of RSP, and multiple review meetings have taken place in Bhubaneswar. According to CM Majhi, all developments so far have been positive. The initiatives reflect the government’s focus on integrated development through infrastructure growth and industrial expansion to support long-term economic progress in Rourkela.
