Dense Fog Likely in Four Odisha Districts; IMD Issues Yellow Alert for Jan 29–30

The India Meteorological Department has forecast dense fog at isolated places in Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Kendrapara, and Bhadrak districts of Odisha over the next two days. A Yellow alert has been issued as dry weather continues to prevail across the state.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) regional centre in Bhubaneswar on Wednesday forecast dense fog at isolated pockets in four coastal districts of Odisha—Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Kendrapara, and Bhadrak—over the next two days. In the absence of any significant synoptic system, foggy conditions are expected mainly during early morning hours.

Accordingly, the IMD has issued a Yellow alert for these districts for January 29 and 30. In its mid-day bulletin, the IMD stated that dry weather prevailed across Odisha during the last 24 hours. Minimum temperatures recorded an appreciable rise of about 2°C at one or two places in South Interior Odisha, while no major change was observed elsewhere in the state.

Temperatures were below normal at a few places in South Coastal Odisha, above normal at some locations in Interior and North Coastal Odisha, and normal at remaining places. The highest maximum temperature of 32.4°C was recorded at Paralakhemundi, while the lowest minimum temperature of 9.5°C was recorded at Phulbani in the plains of Odisha.

The IMD further warned of shallow to moderate fog in several districts during early morning hours over the next two days and advised residents to remain alert, particularly in fog-prone areas where visibility may be reduced.
