Andhra Pradesh May Ban Social Media for Children Under 16 to Protect Mental Health

The Andhra Pradesh government is considering banning social media use for children under 16 due to its adverse impact on mental health. Education Minister Nara Lokesh will lead a meeting with key ministers to discuss cyberbullying, online harm, and attention span issues.

The Andhra Pradesh government is exploring a potential ban on social media usage for children below 16 years, citing concerns over mental health, cyberbullying, addictive algorithms, and reduced attention spans.

Education Minister Nara Lokesh will chair a meeting with NDA partners and key ministers, including Home Minister Anitha Vangalapudi and Health Minister Satya Kumar Yadav, to discuss the proposal. The Group of Ministers may also establish a State Social Co-ordination Cell and appoint a nodal officer to monitor online safety, process complaints, and liaise with the central government for necessary actions. The move aims to promote safer digital habits and encourage physical activity among children.
