In a significant breakthrough, children resumed attendance at the Anganwadi centre in Ghadiamal Nuagaon under Rajnagar block of Kendrapara district on February 16, 2026, after the centre remained closed for nearly three months. The disruption reportedly stemmed from caste-related tensions following the appointment of a Dalit woman as an Anganwadi helper.
The prolonged closure had affected early childhood education and welfare services provided under the government scheme. Following media attention and sustained intervention by district authorities, efforts were intensified to resolve the dispute and restore normal operations.
On Monday, the Child Development Project Officer (CDPO) Dipali Mishra and Rajnagar MLA visited the centre as children returned. Officials conducted door-to-door outreach in the village, held a gram sabha meeting, and assured residents that all concerns would be addressed amicably.
Earlier, on February 14, members of the Child Protection Commission and other administrative officials had visited the village to counsel residents. A traditional ‘pala’ performance was organised to spread awareness about social harmony and inclusivity. Following these initiatives, villagers pledged to send their children back to the centre.
Sarmistha Sethi, the Anganwadi helper, expressed happiness as children returned and sweets were distributed to mark the occasion. CDPO Dipali Mishra stated that the resolution of the issue would set a positive example and ensure children continue to benefit from government welfare schemes.
