The Central Board of Secondary Education Class 10 English board exam held on February 21, 2026, was rated moderate to easy by students and teachers. The paper was syllabus-aligned, competency-based, and rewarded conceptual clarity over rote learning.

The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) Class 10 English Language and Literature (184) examination conducted on February 21, 2026, was widely described as moderate to easy in difficulty level. Early feedback from both students and educators indicates that the paper was fair, well-structured, and strictly aligned with the prescribed NCERT syllabus.

Mahima Dudeja, PGT English at JAIN International Residential School (JIRS), Bengaluru, observed that the paper was “moderately easy,” with lucid and coherent language that ensured smooth comprehension for most students. She noted that the question paper gave due weightage to the syllabus and adopted a competency-based approach, encouraging critical thinking and logical reasoning rather than rote memorisation.

Reading Section: Clear and Scoring

The reading comprehension section was considered accessible and scoring. Passages were straightforward, and questions focused on comprehension, inference, and vocabulary without unnecessary ambiguity. Experts emphasised that students who read carefully were able to attempt the section effectively, as it required understanding rather than complex interpretation.

Writing Section: Familiar Formats, Balanced Choices

The writing section followed expected formats and provided balanced internal choices, including letter writing and analytical paragraph tasks. Clear instructions regarding word limits and structure helped students organise their responses efficiently.

The topics allowed logical expression of ideas, making the section comfortable for students who had practised writing regularly.

Grammar and Literature: Concept-Based and NCERT-Focused

Grammar questions were largely direct and concept-driven, enabling students to apply rules with clarity. However, teachers pointed out a minor punctuation inconsistency in one reported speech question that may have momentarily confused some students.

The literature section remained closely linked to NCERT texts. Questions tested understanding of themes, character motivations, and figurative language. Students familiar with key textual insights found the section manageable and scoring.

Analytical Focus and Competency-Based Approach

A few literature questions required deeper interpretation, rewarding students who demonstrated analytical thinking and textual awareness. The paper reflected CBSE’s continued emphasis on competency-based education, prioritising clarity, comprehension, and interpretation over memorised answers.

Balanced Structure and Time Management

The distribution of marks across reading, writing, grammar, and literature was even, ensuring balanced coverage. Most students reported that the paper was not lengthy and allowed sufficient time for completion and revision.

Those who had practised answer writing beforehand found it easier to manage time effectively.

Overall, the CBSE Class 10 English exam 2026 was balanced, syllabus-aligned, and student-friendly. It offered a scoring opportunity for well-prepared students and maintained fairness in assessment.
