Security agencies across India are on high alert after two improvised explosive devices (IEDs) were recovered and safely diffused in Punjab and Kashmir, raising concerns about a possible terror threat.
In Punjab, an IED was discovered inside a suspicious bag near the Rayya police post in Amritsar. Police immediately alerted the bomb disposal squad, which confirmed the explosive and neutralised it following safety protocols.
On the same day, another IED was detected in Safapora area of Ganderbal district in Kashmir. The bomb detection squad of the Army and Jammu & Kashmir Police successfully diffused the explosive. This marks the third such recovery in North Kashmir within a week, indicating increased terror activity.
The recoveries came shortly after intelligence agencies warned about a possible terror plot by Lashkar-e-Taiba targeting religious sites and crowded public places in Delhi. Sensitive areas, including temples in Chandni Chowk and the Red Fort, have been placed under tight security.
The terror outfit, led by Hafiz Saeed, is suspected of planning attacks using IEDs. Intelligence reports also highlighted the involvement of other terror groups like Jaish-e-Mohammed in previous attacks.
Security forces have intensified surveillance and security arrangements across the national capital to prevent any potential terror incident.
