Tension flared at Bolagarh Block in Odisha on Wednesday after a group of elected public representatives allegedly vandalised the official vehicle of Block Development Officer (BDO) Suman Sudha Kundu. The incident took place amid an ongoing protest that has continued for the past 10 days, with agitators demanding her immediate transfer.
According to reports, the situation turned volatile when the protesting representatives attempted to forcibly enter the block office premises. As slogans intensified and the crowd swelled, police personnel deployed at the site intervened to prevent further escalation.
A scuffle reportedly broke out between the protesters and the police, leading to chaotic scenes involving pushing and shoving. Despite efforts by law enforcement to restore order, tensions spiralled, and the agitators allegedly vandalised the BDO’s official vehicle parked inside the premises.
Sources said the agitation was triggered by allegations that the BDO was absent during the block-level Republic Day celebrations and did not cooperate in organising the programme smoothly.
Additionally, several elected representatives accused her of neglecting public grievances and failing to maintain proper coordination on developmental matters.
The unrest at Bolagarh Block highlights a growing standoff between the local administration and elected representatives. Wednesday’s violence marked a significant escalation in what had until now been a prolonged protest over administrative functioning and coordination issues.
