Panic has gripped the Patapur police station area in Odisha’s Ganjam district following a spate of burglaries over the past four days. According to reports, miscreants have targeted at least ten houses, stealing gold ornaments and cash, and leaving residents feeling unsafe even inside their homes.
The burglars allegedly followed a similar modus operandi, entering houses through backyard doors, breaking open locks and almirahs, and fleeing with valuables. In several incidents, family members were present inside the houses during the thefts, heightening concerns over security lapses.
The latest burglary was reported on Friday morning from Badheisahi, barely 500 metres from the Patapur police station. The victim reportedly lost around 12 tolas of gold jewellery and Rs 2.60 lakh in cash. Police have launched an investigation, scanning CCTV footage and questioning locals, but no major breakthrough has been achieved so far.
Residents have demanded intensified night patrolling and stronger security measures to prevent further incidents, as fear and insecurity continue to loom large in the area.
