The National Testing Agency (NTA) has declared the results of the UGC NET December 2025 examination, clearing the way for over 76,000 candidates to advance in academic teaching, funded research, and doctoral programmes across Indian universities.
Conducted in computer-based mode between December 31, 2025 and January 7, 2026, the examination covered 85 subjects and was held at 663 centres in 283 cities nationwide. Of the 9.93 lakh registered candidates, around 7.35 lakh appeared, making it one of the largest UGC NET cycles in recent years.
As per official data, 5,108 candidates qualified for both Junior Research Fellowship and Assistant Professor eligibility, while 54,713 candidates qualified for Assistant Professor roles and PhD admission. Another 17,058 candidates qualified exclusively for PhD programmes. Women accounted for nearly 59 per cent of total registrations, reflecting rising female participation in higher education and research.
With results now declared, candidates must track university-specific timelines for fellowships, faculty recruitment, and doctoral admissions. The announcement comes amid heightened campus debates, following the Supreme Court’s stay on the UGC Equity Regulations 2026, which has triggered protests and demands for stronger anti-discrimination measures at several universities.
