Tension erupted at the Puri Shree Jagannath Temple on Saturday over the introduction of a new queue system near the Sata Pahacha area, leading to a clash between servitors and security personnel.
Sources said the temple’s Special Security Force implemented a single-line queue without consulting the servitors, prompting objections from the community, who claimed it violated long-standing temple traditions. The disagreement escalated into a brief scuffle, causing temporary chaos and inconvenience to devotees.
In protest, servitors halted darshan through the Sata Pahacha route, insisting that security staff cannot alter established arrangements without proper consultation.
Temple authorities later intervened, holding discussions with both sides to restore normalcy, while devotees were advised to follow alternative arrangements during the resolution process.
