Sudha Kongara’s historical political dramaParasakthihas emerged as a major box office success, crossing the Rs 100 crore mark in worldwide collections. The film, which released on January 10, continues its steady theatrical run despite receiving mixed critical reviews, underscoring Sivakarthikeyan’s growing pull as a bankable star.
Production house Dawn Pictures officially confirmed the milestone, announcing thatParasakthihas surpassed Rs 100 crore globally. The achievement marks Sivakarthikeyan’s fifth film to enter the prestigious Rs 100-crore club, following the success ofDoctor,Don,Amaran, andMadharaasi. The latest milestone further consolidates his position as one of Tamil cinema’s most reliable box office performers.
Set against the backdrop of 1960s Madras,Parasakthiexplores the politically charged period of the anti-Hindi imposition movement in Tamil Nadu through the story of two brothers. The film’s historical setting and strong political undertones contributed significantly to its pre-release buzz and audience curiosity. Sivakarthikeyan’s loyal fan base also played a key role in driving initial footfalls.
Originally,Parasakthiwas expected to face a major Pongal box office clash with Vijay’sJana Nayagan. However, the clash was avoided after the latter’s release was postponed due to certification delays, givingParasakthia clearer theatrical window.
The film was not without controversy. Actor and producer Dev Ramnath recently alleged that certain Vijay fans were attempting to sabotageParasakthiby spreading negative reviews online. Despite these claims, the film’s box office performance remained largely unaffected.
Directed by Sudha Kongara and produced by Aakash Bhaskaran under the Dawn Pictures banner,Parasakthialso stars Sreeleela, Ravi Mohan, and Atharvaa in prominent roles. The supporting cast includes Dev Ramnath, Prithvi Rajan, Guru Somasundaram, Basil Joseph, and Papri Ghosh.
