Puri Jagannath Temple Ratna Bhandar Counting and Inventory Process to Begin in March

The Odisha government has announced that the counting and inventory of the Ratna Bhandar of the Shree Jagannath Temple in Puri will begin in the first week of March, following consultations with temple authorities and the Chhatisha Nijog.

In a major development concerning the revered Ratna Bhandar of the Shree Jagannath Temple, the Odisha government has initiated steps to begin the long-awaited counting and inventory of the temple’s treasures. The announcement was made by Odisha Law Minister Prithviraj Harichandan on Wednesday.

According to the Minister, the process is expected to commence in the first week of March, subject to finalisation of the schedule in consultation with temple authorities. The decision follows discussions with the Chhatisha Nijog, a key body representing various servitor groups associated with the temple.

The responsibility of executing the exercise has been entrusted to the temple’s Managing Committee and administration. They will hold further consultations with members of the Chhatisha Nijog to determine a suitable date and time in accordance with the established rituals and traditions of Lord Jagannath.

The Law Minister emphasised that while the government aims to initiate the process in early March, the counting and inventory must strictly align with sacred temple customs. The final schedule will be officially announced after due deliberation with all stakeholders.

The Ratna Bhandar, considered one of the most sacred and historically significant repositories of valuables in the temple, has been a subject of public and administrative attention for several years. The upcoming exercise is expected to bring greater clarity and transparency regarding its contents while maintaining full adherence to religious protocols.
