Man Killed in Screwdriver Attack Near Talcher Police Station, Angul
In a shocking incident near Talcher Police Station on Saturday, a man was allegedly killed after being attacked with a screwdriver in Angul district. The deceased has been identified as Santosh Mahapatra, a resident of Talcher town.
According to reports, the accused, Chagala Amanta, had invited Santosh a few days ago to cook at a feast. During the event, Chagala allegedly accused Santosh of stealing Rs 7,200, which led to a heated argument that remained unresolved.
On Saturday, the two reportedly encountered each other near the police station, sparking another confrontation over the same dispute. The argument soon escalated into violence, with Chagala allegedly striking Santosh on the neck with a screwdriver, leaving him critically injured. Police rushed to the scene, rescued Santosh, and immediately shifted him to Mandapal Hospital, where he was declared brought dead.
Investigation Underway
The proximity of the attack to a police station has raised serious concerns. Authorities have launched a probe into the incident to determine the circumstances leading to the fatal assault.
“A murder occurred near the police station. The victim was immediately taken to the hospital, where he was declared brought dead. Following a complaint, the body will be sent for post-mortem. The accused, Chagala Amanta, has been detained,” said Bharat Chandra Sahu, SDPO.
