Odisha Vigilance on Thursday apprehended Janaki Ranjan Mallik, Revenue Inspector (RI) of Kakhadi Circle under Sadar Tahasil in Cuttack district, for allegedly demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs 10,000. The bribe was sought to submit a favourable report in a land mutation case and issue the Record of Rights (ROR/patta).
The complainant, a landowner, had applied online for mutation of his land. Mallik allegedly fixed the hearing for January 27, 2026, but demanded the bribe during a January 20 meeting. Unable to pay, the landowner reported the matter to Odisha Vigilance, which laid a trap and caught the RI accepting the bribe. The money was seized in the presence of witnesses.
Following the arrest, Vigilance officials conducted searches at three locations associated with Mallik to examine potential disproportionate assets. A case (Cuttack Vigilance Police Station Case No. 3/2026) has been registered under Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption (Amendment) Act, 2018. The investigation is ongoing, highlighting Odisha Vigilance’s continued crackdown on corruption within the revenue administration.
