Odisha is steadily transforming into a major industrial powerhouse by expanding beyond its traditional dependence on steel, mining and heavy industries, Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi said on Wednesday. Emphasising technology-led and future-ready growth, the state has attracted investment proposals worth ₹1.67 lakh crore through recent investors’ meets, with an estimated employment potential of around 1.46 lakh people.
Majhi said the encouraging response from investors during roadshows in Hyderabad and Kolkata signals growing confidence in Odisha’s evolving industrial vision. The state is now actively promoting sectors such as IT and IT-enabled services, aerospace and defence, pharmaceuticals, medical devices, biotechnology, technical textiles, engineering goods, plastics, chemicals, packaging and recycling.
As part of the outreach programme, six sector-specific roundtable meetings were held across the two cities, drawing participation from 123 representatives of leading industries and corporate houses. These interactions resulted in significant investment intents across multiple growth sectors.
Highlighting Odisha’s infrastructure strengths, the chief minister pointed to its expanding port network, improved air connectivity, robust road infrastructure and the availability of industrial parks, MSME clusters and special economic zones. He also announced plans to establish three advanced skill development centres in Bhubaneswar, Sambalpur and Berhampur to meet future workforce needs.
Inviting investors to partner in the state’s growth journey, Majhi said Odisha is committed to building a diversified, innovation-driven and future-ready economy.
