Odisha BDO Assaulted Amid Panchayat Building Dispute

In Nuapada, Odisha, a Block Development Officer (BDO) was allegedly assaulted over a dispute regarding a panchayat building site, triggering police intervention, multiple detentions, and a pen-down strike by block employees in protest.

Modified Description:
In Odisha’s Nuapada district, Block Development Officer (BDO) Rohit Bhoi was allegedly assaulted on Monday amid a dispute over the construction of the Bhainsatal panchayat building. The building, originally planned for the panchayat headquarters, is being constructed at Baloda village following a High Court directive, sparking opposition from some local residents.

During the incident, a group of youths reportedly entered the block office and physically attacked Bhoi, prompting him to approach the police. Authorities have detained four individuals for questioning. In response, block-level employees initiated a pen-down strike demanding safety for government officials, while local leaders staged a sit-in protest outside the office.

BDO Bhoi stated that the assault occurred after a confrontation with a local leader and residents who accused him of supporting the court-directed relocation of the panchayat building. The Nuapada police have launched an investigation into the matter.
