Panic gripped Munida village in Odisha’s Balasore district after a youth allegedly set fire to his neighbour’s house in the Soro area. Police have launched an investigation to determine the cause and motive behind the incident.

A shocking incident of suspected arson has been reported from the Soro area of Odisha’s Balasore district, where a youth allegedly set fire to his neighbour’s house, triggering panic among local residents. The incident occurred at Munida village under Achyutpur panchayat within the jurisdiction of Khaira police station.

According to sources, the fire broke out late on Monday night at the house of Niranjan Padhi. Although villagers initially managed to douse the flames, the fire reportedly reignited in the early hours between 2 and 3 am with greater intensity. Thick smoke engulfed the house, forcing the family to flee in order to save their lives.

The three-room thatched house was completely gutted in the blaze. Household articles, cash, and important documents were reduced to ashes, leaving the family with nothing. Due to the severity of the fire, no belongings could be salvaged.

The Khaira fire brigade later rushed to the spot and brought the situation under control. Local residents alleged that the fire was not accidental. Family members claimed they saw a person setting the house on fire and fleeing from the scene. They later identified the suspect as Pranay Pani and alleged that previous enmity may have led to the act.

Police have taken cognisance of the allegations and initiated an investigation. The exact cause of the fire and the role of the accused are yet to be ascertained.
