Indian cricket is witnessing something extraordinary, and even seasoned greats are struggling to put it into words. Ravichandran Ashwin summed up the collective awe surrounding Vaibhav Suryavanshi after the 14-year-old continued his astonishing run spree with another dominant century in South Africa.
Taking to X, Ashwin listed a jaw-dropping sequence of scores from the past month — 171, 190, multiple rapid-fire fifties and a commanding 127 — before asking in disbelief, “What’s all this, brother? Is this sample enough or are you going to raise the bar further?” He added that it was impossible to explain what Suryavanshi was doing at such a young age.
Ashwin’s reaction followed Suryavanshi’s stunning 74-ball 127 in the third Youth ODI against South Africa in Benoni. Captaining India Under-19 for the first time, the left-hander smashed 10 sixes and nine fours to power his side to 393/7 and a crushing 233-run win, sealing a 3–0 series sweep.
The former India spinner also highlighted what lies ahead for the teenager. With the Under-19 World Cup around the corner and IPL 2026 set to be Suryavanshi’s first full season as an opener, Ashwin noted that the next few months would test not just talent, but temperament, hunger and character.
Suryavanshi’s meteoric rise began during IPL 2025, when he stunned the cricketing world with a 38-ball century for Rajasthan Royals. Since then, high-impact centuries and explosive knocks have followed across domestic tournaments and youth internationals in England, Australia and South Africa.
As the U-19 World Cup in Zimbabwe and Namibia approaches and the IPL spotlight grows brighter, expectations around Vaibhav Suryavanshi are only increasing. For now, though, his bat continues to answer every question — emphatically, relentlessly, and far beyond his years.
