Concerns over the availability of LPG cylinders and rising cooking gas prices have prompted many households in Odisha’s Balasore city to shift towards electric cooking appliances. Electronics stores across the city have reported a sudden surge in demand for induction cooktops over the past two days.

Several electronics outlets witnessed increased customer footfall on Thursday, as people queued up to purchase electric stoves as an alternative to LPG-based cooking. Traders say the sudden spike in demand is directly linked to uncertainty surrounding the supply of LPG cylinders in the area.

According to shop owners, many households are now opting for induction cooktops to meet their daily cooking needs. Customers are exploring electric appliances as a reliable option amid concerns that LPG supply may remain irregular in the coming days.

Traders also reported that the unexpected surge in demand has created stock shortages in some stores. Certain popular models of induction cooktops are already running low, making it difficult for shopkeepers to maintain adequate inventory.

“The business has picked up significantly over the last two days due to the shortage of LPG cylinders,” a trader said, adding that demand for electric stoves has risen sharply in the local market.
