New Zealand all-rounder Daryl Mitchell has said the team draws confidence from being considered Indian fans’ “second favourite team” as they fight to reach the semi-finals of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup. Mitchell highlighted the strong support New Zealand receives whenever they play in India, calling it a special motivation for the squad.
After their Super Eight opener against Pakistan was washed out, New Zealand now face crucial matches against Sri Lanka national cricket team and England national cricket team, both of which are must-win games to stay alive in the tournament.
Mitchell said adapting to subcontinental conditions would be key, noting that the team’s experience of playing on spin-friendly pitches could help them succeed. He also emphasised staying focused on one game at a time rather than looking too far ahead.
Having scored over 1,800 T20I runs, Mitchell plays a crucial finisher’s role in the batting order, supporting explosive openers and helping the team close out matches strongly. New Zealand are aiming to win their maiden T20 World Cup title.
