The Odisha Congress faced a major setback on Saturday after 41 workers and supporters of expelled leader Mohammed Moquim submitted their collective resignation, intensifying the party’s internal crisis. The resignations include several senior and grassroots-level leaders, such as a former PCC secretary, former party spokesperson, block Congress presidents, a Mahila Congress secretary, and youth and student wing representatives.
The resigning members cited what they termed as ineffective and directionless leadership of the Odisha Pradesh Congress Committee (OPCC). They alleged that Moquim’s expulsion was arbitrary and highlighted a growing disconnect between the party’s state leadership and grassroots workers.
According to the group, repeated concerns raised by party workers were ignored, leading to frustration, demoralisation, and erosion of organisational strength at the ground level. They further claimed that the present leadership has failed to offer a clear political vision or roadmap for the Congress in Odisha.
No official response from the Congress leadership was available at the time of filing this report. Notably, Mohammed Moquim, former MLA from Barabati-Cuttack, has already announced plans to launch a new political party by the end of March, adding another layer of uncertainty to the state’s political landscape.
