An 18-year-old youth was brutally stabbed to death late Tuesday night at Nathasahi village under Balipatna police limits in Khurda district, triggering panic and anger among local residents. The incident occurred around 11 pm during the second day of the Triveni Mahotsav celebrations.
The deceased has been identified as Lipuna Nath, the only son of Umesh Nath. According to preliminary police findings, Lipuna was allegedly attacked by another youth from the same village, identified as Mithun Nath, following a heated altercation. The accused reportedly fled the scene immediately after the attack.
Balipatna police rushed to the spot after receiving information and shifted the injured youth to the Balipatna Community Health Centre, where doctors declared him dead. The body was later sent to Capital Hospital for post-mortem examination. Police have also detained members of the accused’s family for questioning as part of the investigation.
The incident has sparked widespread outrage in Nathasahi village. Locals alleged that the accused had a criminal background and frequently threatened residents by displaying sharp weapons. Villagers claimed that several complaints had earlier been lodged against him, but no strict action was taken.
Family members of the deceased informed the police that Lipuna had a phone argument with someone a day before the incident, which could be linked to the murder. Police officials said all angles are being examined and efforts are underway to trace and arrest the absconding accused. Further details are expected after the completion of the investigation and receipt of the post-mortem report.
