The Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB) is set to appoint a new head coach for its national team, introducing a key condition that the coach must operate from Afghanistan during the off-season. ACB CEO Naseeb Khan said the move aims to strengthen domestic cricket monitoring and improve the national team’s performance.
The coaching position became vacant after Jonathan Trott’s successful tenure ended following Afghanistan’s T20 World Cup 2026 campaign. Trott had guided Afghanistan to historic victories and a semi-final appearance in earlier ICC tournaments.
ACB has already shortlisted three candidates, including two from South Africa and one from Asia. The new coach is expected to be appointed before the upcoming white-ball series against Sri Lanka.
The board believes this change will help develop domestic talent and build a stronger national team for future international competitions.
