On the night of January 25, 2026, a minor girl attending a religious program in Deogarh district was lured away from the gathering by Udit Patra, a man visiting relatives in the area. According to police reports, Patra was allegedly under the influence of alcohol when he committed the assault near a roadside.
The victim’s cries for help alerted villagers, who rescued her and apprehended the suspect. The police intervened to take custody of Patra after he was assaulted by the public.Deogarh SP Anil Kumar Mishraconfirmed that a forensic team is investigating the scene and that formal statements from the victim's family have been recorded. The child is currently in stable condition at the district hospital, and the accused will face court proceedings following his medical clearance.
