Alow-pressure areahas formed over theBay of Bengal, but meteorologists have indicated that it isunlikely to have any direct impact on Odisha, according to predictions made on Tuesday.

TheIndia Meteorological Department (IMD)reported that the system developed around 5:30 pm on Monday over the southeast Bay of Bengal and the adjoining east equatorial Indian Ocean. It is expected tointensify and become more well-marked within the next 24 hours.

Experts said that over the following 48 hours, the low-pressure area is likely tomove west–northwestwards toward the southwest Bay of Bengal and the adjoining equatorial Indian Ocean region. Despite this movement, officials clarified that the system isnot expected to significantly influence Odisha’s weather, with no immediate forecast of heavy rainfall or adverse conditions for the state.

Weather expertSarat Sahuexplained, “The system is unlikely to have any direct impact on Odisha. However, a trough line approaching northwest India may bringlight to moderate rainfallto parts of the state on January 10, particularly in coastal and northern regions.”

He also warned ofhailstorm activityin districts including Bolangir, Jharsuguda, Sundargarh, Sambalpur, and Bargarh. Meanwhile,cold wave conditionsare expected to persist across Odisha until January 12, affecting both plain and hilly regions.
