Two youths were found dead inside a motor garage near the Tangi–Nirgundi railway station along National Highway-16 in Cuttack district on Wednesday, raising strong suspicion of foul play.
The deceased have been identified as Md Soheb, a resident of Teruan village, and Prashant Kumar Jena of the Choudwar Jatra Padia area, both under the jurisdiction of Choudwar police station. Visible injury marks on their bodies have further deepened suspicions of a possible murder.
Upon receiving information, personnel from Tangi Police Station, along with senior officers including the Assistant Commissioner of Police, rushed to the spot and initiated an investigation. The bodies were subsequently sent for post-mortem examination to determine the exact cause of death.
Police officials stated that while the circumstances point towards foul play, the final conclusion will depend on forensic and post-mortem reports. Investigators are examining all possible angles, including the possibility of involvement of other individuals.
The two deceased were reportedly friends, and authorities are trying to ascertain why they had gone to the garage late at night and whether others were present at the scene. Police are questioning local residents, garage workers, and other potential witnesses as part of the probe.
Cuttack Rural SP Vinit Agrawal confirmed that a detailed investigation is underway. “Preliminary findings indicate that this could be a case of murder. We are collecting evidence from the scene and will take appropriate action once the investigation progresses,” he said.
