In a majordrug crackdownin Bhubaneswar,Khordha district Excise officialsbusted a brown sugar racket on Saturday.Three individuals, including a law student allegedly acting as the kingpin, were arrested in connection with the operation.
During the special operation nearBiju Patnaik International Airport, officials seized265 grams of brown sugar, with an estimated market value of aroundRs 27 lakh. Investigations revealed that the accused were procuring the drugs from Khordha and distributing them across Bhubaneswar, withForest Park and Airport areasreportedly serving as regular meeting and distribution points.
The law student, identified as the main supplier, allegedly coordinated the trade throughWhatsApp groups, using digital platforms to manage orders and distribution discreetly.
Following the arrests, the Excise Department has intensified its probe to uncover the wider network behind the racket and is investigating possible links to other suppliers and distributors operating in and around the capital city.
