In a significant move ahead of the annual Khandagiri Mela, the Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) has decided to prohibit obscene dance performances during the festival. The decision was announced by Bhubaneswar Mayor Sulochana Das following a high-level preparatory meeting held on Friday to review arrangements for the event.

The meeting focused on strengthening security, improving crowd management, and ensuring a safe and family-friendly environment for devotees and visitors. As part of the security measures, around 100 CCTV cameras will be installed at strategic points across the mela venue to monitor crowd movement and prevent any untoward incidents. Adequate police deployment has also been planned to maintain law and order.

Special attention will be given to the safety of women, children, and elderly visitors. The civic body has also made arrangements for essential amenities such as drinking water, sanitation facilities, and accommodation for saints and sadhus attending the religious gathering.

The Mayor stated that jatra performances would be allowed only in designated areas, with strict instructions to avoid any form of obscenity. Organisers have been clearly informed about the guidelines, and strict action will be taken against violations.

Emphasising the cultural and spiritual significance of the Khandagiri Mela, the civic administration reiterated its commitment to maintaining the sanctity of the event while ensuring a smooth and orderly experience for all visitors.
