The 24th general council meeting of the Daspalla Notified Area Council (NAC) on Saturday was disrupted due to loud protests by councillors, forcing the session to be adjourned midway.
The meeting descended into chaos as councillors raised strong objections over alleged administrative failures. They claimed that developmental work in several wards had stalled and accused two senior officers of acting arbitrarily and ignoring concerns raised by elected representatives. Repeated demands for answers went unaddressed, leading to heated exchanges and sloganeering inside the meeting hall.
As tensions escalated, the meeting was called off halfway. Councillors voiced frustration over what they described as the administration’s inability and unwillingness to address civic issues affecting local residents.
Speaking to the media, councillor Laxmidhar Sahu said officials openly admitted their helplessness. “They told us directly that they won’t be able to answer us, so we told them that we are not going to support them in this meeting because they are not able to find solutions to our problems,” he said.
The disruption highlights the growing rift between the Daspalla NAC administration and elected councillors. Residents remain concerned as repeated allegations of stalled development and administrative apathy continue to surface, raising questions over governance in the notified area.
