Slovakia Halts Emergency Power Supply to Ukraine Amid Oil Transit Dispute

Slovakia stopped emergency electricity exports to Ukraine after Russian oil shipments through the Druzhba pipeline were disrupted. Prime Minister Robert Fico called it a reciprocal step, while Kyiv urged constructive dialogue.

Slovakia has suspended emergency electricity supplies to Ukraine, escalating tensions between the two nations amid an ongoing dispute over Russian oil transit. The move comes after oil shipments through the Druzhba pipeline were disrupted following reported drone attacks that Ukraine says damaged the infrastructure.

Slovakia and Hungary accused Ukraine of deliberately blocking oil flows, while Ukraine denied the claims and cited technical damage. Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico said the decision was a reciprocal measure and warned that further steps could follow if oil transit does not resume.

Ukraine, led by President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, called for cooperation and responsible action, stressing the importance of energy stability amid ongoing Russian attacks on its power infrastructure.

The dispute highlights growing divisions within Europe over energy dependence and the broader geopolitical tensions linked to Russia’s war in Ukraine.
