Senior IAS officer Deoranjan Kumar Singh formally assumed charge as Odisha’s Development Commissioner-cum-Additional Chief Secretary on Friday, a day after the state government announced a major reshuffle of senior bureaucrats.
Singh took over the new role following official orders issued by the General Administration and Public Grievance Department. Prior to this appointment, he served as Additional Chief Secretary in the Revenue and Disaster Management Department and also held key additional responsibilities, including Special Relief Commissioner, Member of the Board of Revenue, and Managing Director of the Odisha State Disaster Management Authority (OSDMA).
After assuming office, Singh said his focus would be on strengthening coordination among departments to ensure effective planning and timely execution of development programmes. He added that Odisha is on a growth-oriented path and aligned with the broader vision of achieving a developed state by 2036 in line with the national goal of Viksit Bharat 2047.
As part of the administrative reshuffle, Satyabrata Sahu, Additional Chief Secretary, Home Department, has been appointed as Member, Board of Revenue, Cuttack. He will continue to hold charge of the Home Department, while also relinquishing his additional role in the Forest, Environment and Climate Change Department.
Hemant Sharma, Additional Chief Secretary, Industries Department, will continue to hold additional charge of the Home Department along with responsibilities related to Information and Public Relations and the Industrial Promotion and Investment Corporation of Odisha (IPICOL).
Several other senior officials have been assigned additional responsibilities. Shubha Sarma will continue as Principal Secretary of the Water Resources Department along with her charge of the Women and Child Development Department. Bhaskar Jyoti Sarma will continue as Principal Secretary of the Forest, Environment and Climate Change Department in addition to overseeing the Excise Department.
Rajesh Prabhakar Patil has been appointed as Special Relief Commissioner, Odisha, and Managing Director of OSDMA, in addition to his current responsibilities in the Co-operation Department and allied bodies.
At the district level, Akshay Sunil Agrawal has been transferred as Collector and District Magistrate of Gajapati, while Madhumita Rath, currently Additional Secretary in the School and Mass Education Department, has been appointed as the new Collector and District Magistrate of Nayagarh.
