In a significant development for Odisha, nearly one and a half tonnes of gold have been discovered in Mayurbhanj district, boosting the state’s mineral prospects amid soaring gold prices.
According to official figures, 1,462 kilograms and 730 grams of gold have been estimated at the Madansahi site of the Kanjia gold mine following a G-2 level survey conducted by the Geological Survey of India. The findings were disclosed by Odisha Mines Minister Bibhuti Bhushan Jena in a written reply in the State Assembly on Thursday.
The G-2 level survey indicates a detailed stage of mineral exploration, providing a reliable estimate of gold reserves at the identified site.
Exploration Expands to Other Districts
Beyond Mayurbhanj, gold-bearing ore has also been traced in the Adas-Rampalli area of Deogarh district and the Gopur-Jaldihi area of Keonjhar district. Exploration activities are currently underway in these regions to assess the extent and commercial viability of the deposits.
Preliminary explorations carried out by the Odisha Mining Corporation at various stages have further indicated the presence of gold deposits in several other districts across the state.
A Promising Mineral Outlook
The discovery comes at a time when global gold prices are witnessing an upward trend, potentially enhancing the economic value of the find. With nearly 1.46 tonnes of gold already identified in Mayurbhanj and additional traces found in Deogarh and Keonjhar, Odisha’s mineral resource base appears increasingly promising.
As exploration progresses and further geological assessments are conducted, the discoveries could open up future mining prospects, generate employment, and contribute to the state’s revenue.
