A newborn baby girl was rescued from near the house of a 70-year-old man accused in a minor rape case in the Byasanagar area of Jajpur district. According to police, local residents noticed the infant lying on the road late at night and immediately alerted authorities. With the help of locals, the baby was taken to Jajpur Road Medical Hospital, where doctors provided emergency care.
The rescue comes shortly after the elderly man was arrested following allegations of rape made by a minor girl. Police have also arrested the managing director of a private hospital in connection with allegations that the minor had undergone an abortion days before the arrest. Investigators are now examining whether there is any link between the rescued newborn and the ongoing case.
Doctors treating the infant said the baby was suffering from severe hypothermia when brought to the hospital but responded well to treatment and is now stable. Medical staff added that the newborn appears to be premature and further tests are being conducted to assess her health and gather more details.
Local residents who participated in the rescue said they initially thought the sound was from an animal, but later realised it was a baby crying. Police have launched a detailed investigation to identify the newborn’s parents and determine the circumstances in which she was abandoned. Authorities said further action will be taken based on the findings of the probe.
