Panic spread across BBC Pada locality in Bhawanipatna town of Kalahandi district late Tuesday night after a firing incident was reported near the Hanuman Temple under Town Police Station limits.
According to sources, the incident occurred around midnight when a man was standing outside his residence. A minor argument allegedly broke out between two individuals. The situation quickly escalated, and during the altercation, an inebriated youth reportedly fired a shot in the air.
The accused has been identified as Yashwant Nayak, a resident of BBC Pada in Bhawanipatna. Police sources revealed that Nayak was allegedly carrying two Mauser pistols at the time of the incident. Fortunately, the firing was reportedly a blank shot and no injuries or casualties were recorded.
Upon receiving information, a team from Town Police Station rushed to the scene and launched an immediate search operation. At around 1 am, police reached Nayak’s residence, questioned him, and took him into custody. During the operation, two Mauser pistols were seized and three other individuals were detained for questioning.
Yashwant Nayak has been formally arrested in connection with the case. Authorities are now investigating how the accused procured the firearms and whether any illegal arms network is linked to the incident. Police are also probing if others were involved and the purpose behind keeping the weapons.
