A major robbery was reported late Wednesday night in the Nilagiri area of Balasore district, where gold ornaments worth several lakhs of rupees were allegedly looted at gunpoint from a jewellery trader.
The incident occurred near Santaragadia’s Kuligadi village under Nilagiri Police Station limits. The victim, Kripasindhu Rana, a resident of Kuligadi village, was reportedly intercepted by miscreants while returning home after closing his jewellery shop.
According to Rana’s complaint, four unidentified individuals riding two motorcycles blocked his path between 9:15 pm and 9:20 pm on a relatively deserted stretch of road. When he attempted to pass from another side, one of the accused allegedly pointed a firearm at his head, snatched his scooter keys, and fled with a bag containing gold ornaments.
The trader stated that the incident took place on a less crowded route, making it easier for the miscreants to execute the crime and escape swiftly. He also mentioned that he usually travels with his son while returning home, but on the day of the robbery, he was alone.
Following the complaint, police registered a case at Nilagiri Police Station and launched a detailed investigation. Authorities are examining various angles, including the possibility of the robbery being pre-planned.
