Indian Railways has regularised two special train services connecting Baripada in Odisha with Puri and Kolkata, strengthening rail connectivity across northern and coastal districts. The Bhanjpur–Puri Special (08011/08012) and the Shalimar–Bhanjpur Special (08007/08008), earlier operating on a temporary basis, will now run as regular services.
Chief Minister Mohan Majhi thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw for approving the move, stating that it would benefit residents of Mayurbhanj, Balasore, Bhadrak and Jajpur districts with improved access to Bhubaneswar and Puri.
Train No. 08011 Bhanjpur–Puri will depart at 11:10 pm on Thursdays and Saturdays, reaching Puri at 5:50 am the next day, while the return service (08012) will operate on Fridays and Sundays. The Shalimar–Bhanjpur service (08007) will run on Thursdays and Saturdays, with the return train (08008) operating on Mondays and Saturdays.
Enhanced stoppages at key stations such as Jaleswar, Basta, Rupsa, Baripada, Brahmapur, Bhubaneswar, Cuttack and Balasore are expected to boost mobility, tourism and regional economic development.
