National Aluminium Company Limited (NALCO) is set to undertake a massive Rs 30,000 crore expansion to meet growing domestic aluminium demand and align with the government’s ‘Viksit Bharat 2047’ vision. As part of its 2030 plan, NALCO plans to set up a 0.5 million tonne aluminium smelter at its Angul facility in Odisha and a 1,080 MW thermal power plant.
The company has initiated the preparation of the Detailed Project Report (DPR) and expects to appoint a consultant this month, with board approval for the project slated by July or August 2026. The expansion will adopt world-class, environmentally sustainable technology, ensuring efficiency and reduced environmental impact. NALCO’s investment highlights its commitment to supporting India’s growing aluminium market while embracing green power initiatives.
