GRIDCO’s Proposed Bulk Power Tariff Hike Faces Strong Pushback at OERC Hearing

GRIDCO’s proposal to raise bulk power tariffs for FY27 has triggered stiff resistance from consumer bodies and industry representatives during the Odisha Electricity Regulatory Commission’s public hearing, with stakeholders questioning power procurement efficiency and cost management.

State-owned power trading utility GRIDCO has proposed a steep increase in the bulk supply price (BSP) of electricity for the 2026–27 financial year, drawing sharp criticism from consumer organisations and industry representatives at a public hearing conducted by the Odisha Electricity Regulatory Commission (OERC).In its Aggregate Revenue Requirement (ARR) and BSP petition, GRIDCO has sought approval for an average bulk power tariff of 388.23 paise per unit for FY27, up from the existing 330.66 paise per unit—an increase of nearly 58 paise. The utility has projected electricity sales of 39,203 million units (MU), primarily to the state’s four Tata Power-run distribution companies.hey urged the Commission to focus on efficient power procurement and trading mechanisms to prevent additional financial burden on consumers. The OERC is expected to review the objections before announcing its final decision on the bulk supply price for FY27.
