Former Odisha Congress MLA Akshaya Acharya Passes Away at 78

Former Congress legislator and two-time Nilgiri MLA Akshaya Acharya passed away late Thursday night at the age of 78. He had been undergoing treatment for a prolonged illness and breathed his last after his health condition deteriorated suddenly.

Former Congress leader and two-time Member of the Legislative Assembly from Nilgiri, Akshaya Acharya, passed away late Thursday night at the age of 78. He had been undergoing prolonged medical treatment and was admitted to a local hospital after his condition worsened around 2 am. He was later referred to Balasore for advanced care, where doctors declared him dead.

A senior leader of the Indian National Congress in Balasore district, Acharya represented the Nilgiri Assembly constituency twice—first from 1980 to 1985 and later from 1995 to 2000. Throughout his political career, he remained actively involved in organisational work and was regarded as a committed grassroots leader.

Although he remained out of electoral politics in recent years, Acharya continued to be associated with party activities and maintained strong ties with local leaders and workers. As of now, no official condolence message from the party leadership has been issued.

He is survived by family members. Details regarding his last rites and funeral arrangements are yet to be announced.
