Dense fog is likely to prevail across large parts of Odisha for the next two to three days, the weather department has said, warning of reduced visibility and potential disruptions to daily life. The foggy conditions, coupled with cold weather, have already begun affecting normal movement across the state.
Authorities have advised commuters to exercise caution while travelling, particularly during early morning and late-night hours. Reduced visibility is expected to impact both road and rail traffic, with motorists urged to use fog lights and maintain low speeds.
On New Year’s Day, large parts of Odisha witnessed intense fog, with visibility dropping to as low as 40–50 metres in several areas. The dense fog severely affected traffic movement, forcing vehicles to slow down or halt at various locations. Many commuters faced delays as highways and city roads remained shrouded in thick fog.
Cities such as Bhubaneswar, Cuttack, Puri and Balasore experienced particularly dense fog, while coastal and northern interior districts saw prolonged periods of low visibility. In several areas, fog persisted well into the morning hours, disrupting daily routines and travel plans.
Authorities have cautioned that similar weather conditions may continue over the next few days. Commuters are advised to remain alert, avoid unnecessary travel during early hours, and stay updated on weather advisories to ensure safety.
