Flight operations at Biju Patnaik International Airport in Bhubaneswar were disrupted on Sunday due to dense fog. Light fog enveloped the airport area around 6:30 am, reducing visibility to 500 metres.
More than 10 flights were delayed, causing crowding at the airport and inconvenience to travellers. Several flights, including those to Guwahati, Mumbai, Delhi, and Prayagraj, were rescheduled, though no cancellations or diversions have been reported so far.
A passenger’s relative expressed frustration over the delays, urging airport authorities to ensure adequate seating and drinking water facilities for passengers waiting inside the terminal.
Earlier, at least three flights had been cancelled and five others delayed as runway visibility fell below operational minimums.
Dense fog continues to persist in Bhubaneswar, with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) warning of similar conditions until January 7. On Sunday, several districts, including Jagatsinghpur, Kendrapada, Khordha, Puri, Cuttack, and Nayagarh, experienced very dense fog, further affecting visibility and travel conditions across the state.
