High drama unfolded at the Works Department office in Bolangir after a heated confrontation broke out between local contractors and departmental staff over pending bill payments and allocation of contract work.
According to sources, local contractors alleged that major projects were being awarded to outside contractors, ignoring eligible local bidders. The allegations led to a tense verbal altercation inside the office premises, creating chaos and panic.
Contractors also claimed that large-value contracts were being split into smaller portions and false bills were being generated. They further alleged that department officials behaved disrespectfully when approached regarding work opportunities.
Following the incident, both parties lodged separate complaints at the Town Police Station. Police have confirmed receiving the complaints and are likely to initiate an investigation into the dispute.
