Complaint Filed Against Nayagarh College Lecturer Over Alleged Assault on Student

A complaint has been registered against a faculty member of Nayagarh Nuagaon College after a first-year student alleged he was assaulted for not completing homework. Police have initiated an investigation.

A complaint has been lodged against a faculty member of Nayagarh Nuagaon College after a first-year student was allegedly assaulted for failing to complete assigned homework. Police have registered a case and begun an inquiry into the matter.

Allegations Against Lecturer

According to the complaint, the incident occurred when a Physics lecturer, identified as Jyotiprakash, allegedly beat a student for not submitting homework. The student reportedly sustained visible marks on his body following the incident.

Family members of the injured student approached the local police station, alleging that two first-year students were physically punished and that one suffered injuries due to excessive force.

Student’s Account

The injured student claimed he was unable to complete the homework because he was unwell the previous day.

“I went to college without finishing the homework because I was sick. Faculties often punish students for such reasons, but the incident was more severe this time,” he alleged.

He further stated that students are sometimes asked to stand outside the classroom for extended periods if they arrive late.

Lecturer’s Response

The lecturer admitted to punishing the student but said there was no intention to cause serious harm.

“I had assigned homework, and one of the students had not completed it. I acted in anger and accidentally hit him harder than intended. I apologised and realise it was a mistake,” he said, while denying allegations of routinely beating students.

Police Action

Police officials confirmed that a case has been registered and an investigation is underway. Further action will be taken based on the findings of the inquiry.
